Ryanair plans new route between Croatia and Italy

Ryanair announces seven new Croatia routes for 2023

Ryanair has outlined a preliminary schedule to start a new flight service between Croatia and Italy next summer.

According to the current plan, flights between the capital Zagreb and Palermo would begin on March 30 and run three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, using a 180-seat Lauda Europe Airbus A320.

If these plans move forward, this would mark the first direct, scheduled flight between the two cities.

However, Ryanair has not yet made a final decision, and tickets are not on sale yet.

Ryanair has seen good results in the Italian market from Zagreb, with existing flights to Rome Fiumicino, Milan Bergamo, Naples, and Pisa, which was introduced this past summer, , EX-YU Aviation reports.

Currently, flights to Naples are only available in the summer. Milan Bergamo is among Ryanair’s busiest routes from Zagreb, with nearly 70,000 passengers last year.

Ryanair’s leisure destinations from Zagreb have also attracted strong interest. Based on current plans, Ryanair aims to restart flights to Memmingen next summer after pausing the route during the summer of 2024, although it operated in winter.

In 2025, Ryanair will enter the fourth year of a five-year Growth Incentive Model at Zagreb Airport, requiring it to add at least 75,000 departing passengers annually to continue receiving incentives.

The airline can earn even larger discounts if it exceeds 150,000 additional departing passengers each year. With Italy expected to be Ryanair’s biggest market from Zagreb next summer, other major destinations for the airline are set to include Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, France, and Malta.
