Jadrolinija CEO David Sopta and Brač Secondary School Headteacher Doris Mažija signed a donation agreement to cover the travel expenses of mainland students attending school on the island of Brač.
This initiative, prompted by local parents, aims to support island education and strengthen the connection between mainland and island communities.
“We received a request for Jadrolinija to provide financial assistance for their transport. We wanted to help, and knowing that other children also travel daily from the mainland to attend school in Supetar, we reached out to the school’s headteacher and extended this support to all mainland students.
Our aim is to provide them with free ferry transport, and today, we’ve formalised this support with a donation agreement. I am pleased to see our cooperation progressing in this way,” Sopta remarked.
Blaženko Boban, the County Prefect for Split-Dalmatia, reminded attendees that the state already provides subsidised transport for island children, enabling them to travel to the mainland by ferry free of charge.
“With this initiative, we are now supporting eight, potentially even more, children commuting from the mainland to Brač. After the parents reached out, we promptly approached Jadrolinija, who responded exceptionally quickly. I extend my gratitude to CEO David Sopta and everyone who acted swiftly to ensure these students receive equal treatment as those commuting from the island to the mainland for their education.
Thanks also to Headteacher Mažija and MP Danica Baričević, who informed me of the parents’ request. It is wonderful to hear that children from Split and surrounding areas are pursuing their education on Brač,” Boban concluded.
The headteacher, Doris Mažija, commented on the unique situation of mainland students enrolling in a secondary school in Supetar.
“This new situation has been resolved to the satisfaction of parents, students, and all involved, through our collaboration with Jadrolinija. These students travel daily as regular pupils of our school, using Jadrolinija ferries,” stated Mažija.
