The highly anticipated film Dražen, which explores the life of one of the greatest Croatian sporting icons, Dražen Petrović, has finally arrived in cinemas across Croatia.
With an intimate look at the life of this beloved athlete, the film opened to an audience of nearly 3,000 viewers at its premiere, and over 7,000 tickets were sold for the film in advance.
These impressive figures mark Dražen as one of the most successful Croatian film releases in recent memory, demonstrating how much fans want to experience Petrović’s story in cinemas, Jutarnji list reported.
Dražen is screening at cinemas across Croatia, and following its Croatian release it is set to expand to audiences in cinemas across the region and beyond.
The film is also scheduled to feature at the prestigious Black Nights Film Festival in Tallinn, Estonia, one of Northern Europe’s largest film festivals, drawing over 80,000 attendees annually.
There is no news yet as to it being available on any streaming service.
The film captures Petrović’s rise to sporting legend but offers an unfamiliar side to his life, providing a deeply human narrative behind the scenes. “In addition to those of us who’ve admired him since we were young, Dražen also inspires a new generation, children who find in him a new idol,” noted the producers.
The cast brings Dražen’s life story to vivid life, with Domagoj Nižić portraying Dražen Petrović and Tonko Stošić as a young Dražen. Romina Tonković stars as Renata, Dražen’s girlfriend; Pavle Matuško as Aleksandar Petrović, his brother; Lovre Tanfara as young Aleksandar; Zrinka Cvitešić as Biserka Petrović, Dražen’s mother; and Dragan Mićanović as Jovan Petrović, his father.
Other notable cast members include Victoria Hauer, Valentin Perković as Warren LeGarie, Mile Kekin as Mirko Novosel, and James Perry as Willis Reed.
Directed by Danilo Šerbedžija and produced by Ljubo Zdjelarević and Ivor Šiber, the film was shot across Šibenik, Zagreb, Madrid, and the United States.
Dražen Petrović’s legacy in basketball is indelible and as Dražen continues to attract audiences, it stands as a tribute to a man whose skill and determination left an enduring mark on the sport.
