The Croatian National Bank has released a new 6-euro silver collector’s coin called the “Trsat Dragon,” celebrating a famous sculpture tied to Croatia’s heritage.
Crafted by the Croatian Mint, this coin stands out for its ultra-high relief design, making it visually striking.
The coin’s inspiration goes back to the early 1800s, when Count Laval Nugent, an Austrian field marshal, commissioned bronze statues of mythical creatures known as “Trsat dragons” or “basilisks.”
These dragons, a blend of snake, dragon, and rooster, were legendary protectors of Trsat Castle overlooking Rijeka.
They became symbols of the Nugent family’s noble coat of arms and hold a special place in local folklore.
Designed by Natalia Danysz, this limited edition coin will be available from the Croatian Mint starting November 14, 2024, with only 1,000 coins produced.
The initial price is set around 249.99 euros, though the final cost may vary based on silver market rates.
