New Croatian embassies and consulates to open around the world

Croatia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Gordan Grlić-Radman, has unveiled that Croatia will expand its global diplomatic relations with the opening of new embassies and general consulates.

Speaking at the 10th Meeting G2 Conference in Zagreb, an event celebrating a decade of connecting Croatian businesspeople globally, Grlić-Radman highlighted the importance of strengthening ties with the Croatian diaspora.

The new diplomatic missions will include embassies in Peru, São Paulo, Brazil, New Zealand’s capital Wellington, and Mexico.

Additionally, a general consulate will be established in Vancouver, Canada.

“We plan to establish embassies in Peru, where over 230,000 people of Croatian descent reside, as well as in São Paulo, Brazil, Wellington, New Zealand, and Mexico.

In Vancouver, Canada, home to 50,000 Croats, we intend to open a general consulate,” he said.

Grlić-Radman emphasised the logistical challenges many Croatians abroad face when participating in democratic processes such as voting.

“Voting is currently limited to diplomatic-consular offices, which is unacceptable given the vast distances. For example, travelling from Ottawa to Vancouver takes six hours by air—who can afford such a journey to vote?,” the minister added.

He stressed the critical role these new offices will play in maintaining connections with Croatian communities abroad, stating, “Without establishing new offices, we distance ourselves from our people. We need to open representations wherever possible—nothing is too expensive when it comes to maintaining these connections.”

The announcement came as approximately 200 Croatians from 15 countries gathered at the G2 Conference, held under the theme Decade of Business Connection. Over the years, this forum has enabled networking between businesspeople of Croatian origin and more than 300 companies and startups in Croatia.
