The stunning cliffs of Telašćica Nature Park on the Croatian island of Dugi Otok have taken on a starring role in HBO’s hit series Dune: Prophecy.
Serving as the backdrop for the Imperial Palace, a key location in the series, these Croatian cliffs make a striking appearance in the show, adding a touch of authentic beauty to the futuristic landscape.
Filming took place over three days in June, exclusively using drones to capture the dramatic rock formations and azure sea surrounding this unique natural wonder, Jutarnji list reported.
While most of the series was filmed in studios in Hungary and partially in Jordan, the creators opted to feature real-world landscapes for pivotal scenes.
The footage of Telašćica’s cliffs was digitally enhanced to create a futuristic palace perched atop rounded rock formations, seamlessly blending imagination with nature’s majesty.
The production was shrouded in secrecy, with a minimal crew working on location. Drone cameras hovered from dawn to dusk, ensuring every angle of this remarkable site was captured.
Despite the digital modifications, only the keenest observers might recognise Telašćica as the base for the show’s breathtaking visuals.
Premiering on HBO Max in November 2024, Dune: Prophecy has already captivated audiences. The series is set 10,000 years before the events of Frank Herbert’s Dune and explores the origins of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood. Starring Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, and Mark Strong, the show is inspired by the novel Dune: The Sisterhood by Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson.
The first season consists of six episodes, with new episodes airing every Monday at 8 PM. The show is a co-production between HBO and Legendary Television, the team behind the Oscar-winning Dune films.
