A small Croatian football club has been forced to change its badge after their original one caught the attention of English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, leading to a copyright dispute.
NK Jadran-Galeb, a club competing in the third division of the Koprivnica-Križevci County leagues, received a formal letter from Brighton & Hove Albion after they became aware their badge was identical.
According to ePodravina, a multi-page document sought clarification on copyright matters and insisted that the Croatian club remove the badge.

Following pressure from the English club, NK Jadran-Galeb has now unveiled a new badge, moving away from the Brighton & Hove Albion design but keeping with the theme.
The Croatian club was established in 2001 through the merger of two local lower-league teams. At that time, they adopted Brighton’s badge.

Interestingly, the dispute reportedly arose after a member of NK Jadran-Galeb visited Brighton’s headquarters and, rather than receiving a donation as hoped, ended up triggering legal action.
With the new badge now in place, NK Jadran-Galeb can turn their focus back to football.
