Croatia’s population on the rise

Croatia’s population is growing, according to the latest data released by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS) on Friday.

As of mid-2024, the estimated population stood at around 3.87 million, which is approximately 6,000 more than in mid-2023 and 11,000 more than the same period in 2022, Danica.hr reports.

For years, Croatia’s population had been declining, reaching its lowest point in 2021 with nearly 3.88 million people.

Since then, the trend has reversed and the increase is largely attributed to the arrival of a significant number of foreign workers.

At the same time, the large-scale emigration of Croatian workers to other European countries appears to have slowed.

Despite the positive population growth, Croatia continues to struggle with a low birth rate, as more people pass away than are born.

So far, there is no effective solution to this demographic challenge.

The data also reveals that the average age of Croatia’s population was 44.4 years as of mid-2024, while life expectancy stood at 78.6 years.
