Croatian striker Ante Budimir made headlines on Saturday night after scoring against Real Madrid in Osasuna’s 1-1 draw.
His 58th-minute penalty was not just his 13th goal of the season, but also a record-breaking moment in the club’s history.
Budimir Becomes Osasuna’s Greatest Goal Scorer
With this goal, the 33-year-old Croatian international became Osasuna’s all-time top scorer, surpassing all foreign players in club history. He also equalled the legendary Sabino Andonegi, who netted 57 goals in La Liga for the club between 1953 and 1964.
Since joining Osasuna in 2020, Budimir has now scored 63 goals in total, with 57 in La Liga, making him one of the club’s greatest ever strikers.
Budimir is currently the 4th top scorer in La Liga this season with 13 goals, six behind leader Robert Lewandowski.
Just last week, he put in another standout performance, scoring twice at El Sadar Stadium. His form earned him a spot in the La Liga Team of the Week, selected by Europa Press.
Budimir made his Croatia senior debut on 7 October 2020 in a friendly against Switzerland. He scored his first international goal a month later against Turkey. So far, he has 28 caps and 3 goals for the national team.
