Villa Kremešek, arguably one of the nicest state-owned villa’s in the beautiful Western Croatian town of Opatija, has become home to squatters. Daily Novi list reports that during the summer months a 4-member family have decided to turn the abandoned villa into their own summer holiday home.
The villa, worth over 1 million EUR and located just a stones throw away from the Adriatic sea, has been derelict for years and is hidden from public view by bush and shrubs. The daily says that the squatters, who have resided in the villa for the past two months, are a family from the capital Zagreb who get by from collecting refundable plastic bottles. The villa is reportedly is an average state with smashed windows on the ground floor, however, it still has power thanks to the bills being regularly paid. The family are expected to head back to the capital in a few days as their summer vacation comes to an end.
