Another record was set for the summer on Sunday in Croatia’s popular tourist hotspot of Dubrovnik. On Sunday 6 cruise ships, with more than 16,000 passengers on board, docked into the southern Dalmatian city, creating a record for the season in the process.
The large cruise liners to visit were – Celebrity Silhouette with 2,800 passengers, Ruby Princess (3,500), Norwegian Jade (2,660 passengers), Grand Celebration (1,900), Costa Magica (3,500) and MSC Armonija with 2,200 passengers. Strong winds meant the ships could not anchor in front of the old town as they traditionally do, so they all made their way to Gruž port and the small islet of Daksa. Dubrovnik was town was especially busy on Sunday afternoon as the passengers decided to take in the sites around the old town. Last year 648 cruisers with over 1 million passengers sailed into Dubrovnik, however, that number is set to be broken this year. In August alone this year more than 160,000 cruise ship passengers have visited, 7% more than August 2012.
