Free Fruit and Veg For Primary School Kids in Croatia

Close to 140,000 primary school kids, from 1st to fourth grade, will get free fresh fruit and vegetables every week when school kicks off on 2 September as part of the European School Fruit Programme, reports daily Novi list.
The programme, aimed at promoting healthy diet habits amongst school kids, will be rolled out at 836 primary schools in Croatia and reach out to 138,334 kids. 15 fruit and vegetables suppliers, who met government requirements after a public tender back in April, will supply and deliver the fresh fruit and vegetables to the schools. The programme has been funded by the European Commission (75%) and the Croatian government (25%) and on the list of approved produce includes mandarins, apples, pears, plums, apricots, nectarines, cherries, strawberries, tomatoes and carrots.
