Croatia Purchases 11.5 Million Euro Brussels Base

The Croatian government has made a 11.5 million euro addition to its property portfolio. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Croatia’s 70-odd strong contingent in Brussels will now use the 4,000 square metre building in the heart of Brussels as its European Union headquarters.

Croatia’s latest property purchase in Belgium

According to information from the Ministry as reported in daily Jutarnji list, the property was picked up for a bargain. The building, which is located on Joseph II street in Brussel’s European quarter, was valued at 13.7 million euros 5 years ago. The building is 4078 m2 covering 6 floors and a 4-level basement/garage. The purchase price was 2,800 EUR per square metre. The Croatian government had been shelling out 18,760 EUR a month on rent for its Embassy and EU base in Belgium. Jutarnji list reports that the EU Council requires diplomatic missions of Member States to meet certain safety standards and interior design criteria and those were the main reasons Croatia decided to purchase the building.
