***UPDATE*** – Andy Murray has beated Croatia’s Ivan Dodig 6:4, 6:2, 6:4 to give Great Britain an unassailable 3-1 lead in their Davis Cup tie in Umag on Sunday. The win means Great Britain qualifys for the Davis Cup World Group stage.
World number 3 Andy Murray expectedly cruised past Croatian teenager Borna Coric in the first rubber of Great Britain’s World Group qualifying Davis Cup tie in the Adriatic town of Umag on Friday.
The future is bright however, for 16-year-old Croat Coric, who at times looked at home against the current Wimbledon champion, even breaking his serve in the 3rd set. Murray, who won the first set 6:3, stepped up a gear in the second set winning it 6-0. Murray then showed his class and wrapped up the match in straight sets, winning the last 6-3 ,and giving Great Britain a 1-0 lead. Croatia’s number one Ivan Dodig takes on Dan Evans in the second rubber later on Friday.
***UPDATE*** – Croatia’s Ivan Dodig has levelled the tie on Friday afternoon 1-1 with a straight sets win over Dan Evans 6:3,6:2,6:3. Saturday will see the doubles rubber before the reverse singles on Sunday.
***UPDATE*** – Great Britain’s Andy Murray and Colin Fleminghave beaten the spirited Croatian pairing of Ivan Dodig and Mate Pavićin Saturday’s doubles rubber 3-6, 2-6, 7-6(6), 1-6. Sunday sees the reverse singles played.
