The only Croatian to have won 2 Oscar awards, and its most famous Hollywood film producer has opened up about some of Hollywood’s A-listers. Branko Lustig (80), who received his first Oscar in 1993 for producing Schindler’s List and followed it up with another for producing the hit film Gladiator starring Russel Crowe, says that he is on good terms with most of Hollywood’s big names – bar a few.
“I am good with all actors, except Clooney. We had a fight on set in Bratislava when he was looking for another telephone line which I could not give him. Soon in New York there will be a gala evening to mark the 20th anniversary of “Schindler’s List” which Clooney will host and I have decided not to go. I have not spoken to him in 18 years and I do not feel the need to see him,” said Lustig to Glas Slavonije.
It is not just Clooney that the Croatian director has had a run in with.
“Russell Crowe is difficult. We had a fight on the first day of filming “Gladiator”, but the next day we patched it up. Russell is like a little baby, it is hard to be angry at him,” said Branko, who did have some nice things to say about certain movie stars.
“There are some beautiful stars, such as Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Julianne Moore. Especially Meryl, she is a wonderful person, not just a good actor but a very good person. She is one of those people whom it is impossible to fight with and I am proud that I can call the lovely women a friend,” concluded Lustig.
