More and more foreigners are tying the knot in Croatia, with the stunning Dalmatian island of Hvar the hit destination.
The wedding ‘season’ starts on the island usually just after Easter weekend as the weather starts to turn a bit warmer, and lasts until the end of September. There have been some exceptions this year with some couples flying in during the winter to get hitched.
“Last year our registry office (in Hvar) recorded 70 foreign weddings, and we will most likely reach that number again this year because so far we have conducted more than 50 marriages, with the main ‘actors’ being foreigners. Couples mostly come from the UK, at least half of them, whilst the rest of the couples are a variety of combinations. Also there are Croats living abroad who come back here to get married,” Hvar registrar Luči Nižetić told daily Slobodna Dalmacija, adding that only 20 local weddings are recorded each year on Croatia’s sunniest island.
