The 9th edition of the 25 FPS Festival has opened in Croatia’s capital Zagreb on Thursday night with the screening of the first part of the festival’s competition programme.
The 25 FPS (Frames Per Second) festival screens independent and non-commercial films which innovatively explore the possibilities of cinematic language, narration and the medium itself, cross film types and genres and broaden the notion of film as art. It promotes expressive original concepts, progresses in terms of theme, idea and aesthetics, as well as works that perpetuate the tradition of avant-garde and experimental film.
Main festival sections include, Competition programme, Jury’s choice, Expanded cinema, Reflexes and Kino 23. Since 2005, 25 FPS Festival is organized by 25 FPS, Association for Audio-Visual Research from Zagreb, and is supported by the Office for Culture of the City of Zagreb, Croatian Audiovisual Centre, Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, Student Centre of the University of Zagreb, and National Foundation for Civil Society Development. The festival first came to life in a monthly Croatian TV show called ‘Videodrom’, broadcasting experimental films and videos. The show was running on the Channel One of the Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) for 2 years (2002-2004). More information about the festival which closes on Sunday can be found here.
