Zagreb-based Croatian ice hockey club Medveščak have won their fifth game on the bounce last night in Zagreb to move into 6th place in the Western Conference of the 2nd strongest ice hockey league in the world – the KHL.
Medveščak gave their departing right-wing Brian Willsie the perfect send off last night in front of his home fans when they completed their second shutout in a row, beating Avangard 4:0.
“I have never got any roses before, that really surprised me. I can’t believe that I am leaving. These kind of supporters I am never seen before. I will miss everything, the fans, players, club…who knows, maybe I will come back,” said Willsie, who received roses as a departing gift after last night’s victory.
Despite 5 wins in a row, Medveščak’s two-goal hero and standout player Jonathan Cheechoo is not getting too excited.
“There is no letting up, we still have a lot of work to do. Our goal here in Zagreb is to win 6 straight, then take that winning mentality to away matches because we need away points to make the play-offs,” said Cheechoo.
