Fake Booze Floods Spirit Market in Croatia

Croatia’s largest spirits producer Badel 1862 says that up to 10% of its four leading brands on the domestic market, Vigor vodka, Pelinkovac and Lavov herbal liqueurs and Prima Brand blend of wine distillates, are fakes, reports website just-drinks.
“This [percentage] represents more than 1m bottles sold in markets, in small shops and in some off-trade establishments,” said a spokesperson for Badel to just-drinks. As a result of the bootlegged spirits, Badel 1862 have set up a brand protection unit to counter fakes. Late last month Croatian police busted an illegal producer of Pelinkovac in Varazdin.
