Croatia To Be Completely Under CCTV Soon

Big Brother is in Croatia and he is not going anywhere. Closed-circuit TV (CCTV), cameras monitor traffic and the streets of Croatia are starting to pop up more and more, and authorities say that it is just the start. By the end of 2012, in the capital Zagreb alone, there will be 225 cameras patrolling the streets at 75 locations.
As much as the locals may not like the new video surveillance watching over them on the streets, the cameras are about to become a standard feature in all larger cities in the country, and the reason is simple says Jutarnji list, CCTV in towns offers an excellent opportunity to fill the government coffers as it collects revenue from traffic offences.
Thanks to the CCTV cameras, in Zagreb there were 20,000 traffic fines issued in just 10 months, meaning the 2.1 million euros investment into the cameras will pay for itself in 3 years.
