The new hit Croatian comedy feature film Cowboys directed by Tomislav Mrsic, based on an eponymous record-breaking theatre play written and directed by Sasa Anocic, opened in Croatian cinemas on Thursday.
In Cowboys, theatre director Sasha returns from the big city to his home town where he is offered to re-start the neglected local theater. The problem is that the city does not have any actors. After they advertise auditions for a new show, five very interesting candidates show up. Their only common ground in the field of culture is the Western genre – so the director and his new ensemble decide to stage a Western. The lead roles in the film are played by Saša Anočić, Živko Anočić, Hrvoje Barišić, Kruno Klabučar, Rakan Rushaidat, Radovan Ruždjak, Ivana Rushaidat, Matija Antolić and Nina Erak.
Cowboys is the biggest film opening in Croatian history, in terms of distribution. The film will play simultaneously at 36 locations and on 42 screens all over the country, after the project of digitization of Croatian independent cinemas was successfully completed by the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Croatian Audiovisual Centre. Besides screening in independent cinemas, the new hit film can also be seen in Multiplexes where it is distributed by Blitz film i video.
