You could have been fooled thinking that it was still late August or September and not the 20th of October if you were in the southern Dalmatian town of Dubrovnik on Sunday.
The tourist season seems to be dragging on longer and longer in Dubrovnik, with warm sunshine, people still swimming, and the arrival of five cruisers giving the city a particularly summer feel. The five cruisers which arrived on Sunday bought the city around 7,000 tourists, with another few thousand staying in hotels and apartments, this weekend saw over 10,000 visitors to the famous stone-walled city – a record for this time of year. The autumn months in Dubrovnik traditionally see ‘conference tourism’ dominate numbers, and this year was also no different with Dubrovnik hosting many famous congresses – UEFA, NATO, World Motor Sport Council and the British Association of Travel Agents – ABTA, which kicks off tonight.
The Conference season will last, according to bookings, until mid-November, with cruisers docking in all the way up until Christmas.
