The Croatian U19 football team have missed out on qualifying for the 2014 European Championship in extraordinary circumstances.
Going into the last round of matches in the tournament held in the Czech Republic, Croatia were 3 points clear at the top and a better goal difference by 10 goals over Cyprus – and a shoe-in for qualifying – but then the unimaginable happened. Croatia lost 3-0 to the Czech Republic and the Cypriots, needing to beat Gibraltar by 7 goals did exactly that – winning 7-0, including 2 goals in injury time, meaning Croatia failed to advance to the second round and a chance to qualify for Euro 2014.
