60 Seconds With…Darko Zoric

The family has been entertaining Australia’s Croatian community for nearly half a century. Former footballer-turned singer Darko Zoric is following in the footsteps of his father, carving out a promising music career ‘down under’. Darko’s aptly named debut album ‘Road To Somewhere’ is testament to that, and he joins Croatia Week for ’60 Seconds With…’
When did you first start singing? I started singing when I was 12, it was a natural progression from playing piano. After learning classical piano, I had an urge to incorporate my voice with my piano playing.
How did you get into it? My father has been entertaining and singing for the Croatian community for the last 40 years. As a young boy going to watch my father perform, he would push me onto stage at the end of his gigs to perform a few numbers, which provided a very valuable learning experience for me, and taught me how to perform in front of a live audience. It also ignited my love of music.
Who were your music idols growing up? Michael Jackson and John Lennon.
Who is your favourite Croatian singer? Current – Goran Karan Past – Vice Vukov.
Where is your favourite place you most like to perform at? Croatian Club Punchbowl (Sydney, Australia)…. Every soccer team has its home ground, that’s how I feel about Punchies.
What are your plans for future? Continue singing and playing live for our Croatian community in Sydney. I’m currently working on a new Christian Album which should be available around March 2014.
Where in Croatia are you from? My father is from Karlovac, and mother from Gorski Kotar.

Most famous person you have met? Marko Perkovic Thompson…. on his 2007 New Years Concert in Sydney, I sang with the band ‘Sto Na Sat’ as the support act.
