104-cap veteran Joe Šimunić is confident that he will be appearing in his 3rd FIFA World Cup finals next summer in Brazil. The tall Australian-born defender speaking ahead of Croatia’s crunch match tomorrow night against Iceland in Zagreb, believes Croatia has the wood over their opponents in all facets…
“We have more quality than Iceland in all facets of play, in defence, in the midfield, and in attack, but what is important is the result. On Tuesday we have to be ready for everything,” said Dinamo Zagreb’s captain, who is also confident that Croatia are slowly turning things around after hitting rock bottom under former coach Igor Štimac.
“It is difficult to change things over night, nevertheless, we are on the right track. There were a lot of good things and we are just missing goals. But, that is football,” Šimunić said, adding that Croatia must play smarter tomorrow night to break down Iceland’s defence.
If Croatia qualify for Brazil it will be Šimunić’s 3rd finals, after 2002 in South Korea and Japan, and Germany in 2006.
