Croatia Joins European Economic Area

The Croatian delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Joško Klisović. It was agreed at the meeting that until 30 April 2014 a total of 9.6 million euros would be available to Croatia, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The EEA membership is an obligation stemming from the EU Accession Treaty and makes it possible for Croatia, among other things, to become a beneficiary of the EEA financial mechanism and the Norwegian financial mechanism. The EEA Agreement was signed 2 May 1992 in Porto with the aim to create a single market based on “four freedoms” – the free movement of people, goods, services and capital. Parties to the Agreement are all EU member states, and Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein as members of the European Free Trade Association.
