Croatia’s first ever Botel has opened in the port city of Rijeka last night. The moored boat ‘Marina’ in the Rijeka port, which will be used as a hotel, opened after it was moved from the island of Lošinj, where it served as an entertainment venue for the last six years…
The project to turn the boat into a hotel caught the attention of the Ministry of Tourism, who funded part of the project through its innovative tourism scheme. The botel ‘Marina’ was built back in 1936 in Denmark, and after 33 years sailing the Scandinavian seas, the boat was bought by sea transport company Lošinjska plovidba. Marina then become an attraction in Mali Lošinj.
To get the boat up to botel standards, close to 2 million euros was invested in the project. ‘Marina’ has 35 cabins with 112 beds, a reception area, and a coffee and wine bar. Minister of Tourism Darko Lorencin was the main guest at last night’s opening. (pic: Ancona Grupa)
