Croatian Government Approves More Gay Rights

Just 12 days after the nation voted to constitutional define marriage as one between only a man and a women, Croatia’s ruling party has approved new laws which will give gay couples in the country almost the same rights as heterosexuals…

The law, which is expected to be rubber-stamped in parliament, means that same-sex couple will be able to enjoy most benefits as heterosexual couples, with the exception of legally marrying or adopting children.

“In a human sense, and in terms of their status, this (new) law will make same-sex partnerships and (heterosexual) marriages equal, but not entirely,” said Croatia’s Prime Minister Zoran Milanović at a sitting on Thursday, adding that Croatia will have ‘good European standards’ for same-sex couples.

On 1 December just 25% of the nations eligible voters gave those for having marriage defined as a marriage as one between only a man and a women the majority.
