Think of the picturesque Dalmatian seaside town of Zadar, and the last association one would have would be the sport of ice hockey, but yesterday afternoon locals were treated to the first ever ice hockey match to be played there…
Just 100 metres from the Adriatic sea, and with outside temperatures around 15 degrees, a 3-team ice hockey tournament got underway in Zadar on Thursday, a first for the town.
“We started 3 years ago, when we got the first rink in Zadar. Little by little and today we have managed to gather enough players for a 3-team tournament. It is not important who wins, just that we take part, and with a view of the sea in the background it shows that anything is possible in Zadar,” one of the tournament initatiors Danijel Božajić told daily Slobodna Dalmacija.
