The number of self-employed people in Croatia has significantly grown in the last 3 years, up from around 700 in 2010 to over 5,000 in 2013, and the government is trying to encourage more budding entrepreneurs to go into business…
The Croatian government has set aside more than 15 million USD in 2014 for small businesses as they look to stimulate growth in the private sector. A further 4.5 million euros will also be available from EU funds to help get small businesses get off the ground.
However, it will not just be a case of the government handing out money for nothing. To qualify for the individual grants, which are capped at 4,500 USD regardless at the size of the project, the business plan must be approved by the Employment Bureau of Croatia. Those applying for the new grants are expected to have some capital of their own and if any grant money is given and not used on the business the money will be taken back.
