The Croatian branches of Slovenian supermarket chain Mercator will follow the example set from its stores in Slovenia and will stop throwing expired food away…
Food which goes past its best before date and can no longer be sold in stores will no longer be thrown in the bin. Expired food which is still eatable will now be distributed to the poor. Mercator Croatia will donate left over stock to homeless shelters, charities, soup kitchens and to poor families, says daily Novi list. Time will tell if other supermarket chains in the country follow suit.
