A rise in the number of young tourists to Croatia has seen a record number of hostels open in 2013…
The popular, affordable form of accommodation is currently going through a boom in Croatia, as hotels and private accommodation face some real competition in the country. In the first 9 months of 2013 there were 225,000 tourists who chose to stay in hostels around Croatia, up a massive 40% from 2012. Overnight stays in 2013 in hostels also recorded double-digit growth – up 30% from the year previous.
The rise in demand has seen supply grow. More than 40 new hostels have opened their doors in Croatia in the last 12 months. Currently around 120 hostels exist in Croatia, with a total capacity of over 9,000. The largest number of hostels have opened in the Split-Dalmatia County (26), followed by the capital Zagreb (24) and the Kvarner region (22).
