A true act of sportsmanship so rarely seen these days in competitive sport has earned a young Croatian sailor the prestigious International Olympic Committee (IOC) President’s Youth Prize at the International Fair Play Committee (CIFP) annual conference in Budapest this week…
12-year-old Hana Dragojević from the Split-based Labud sailing club won the international award for helping a competitor during a race last year. Hana was one of the race leaders when a fellow racer Marko Smoli’s boat capsized and he was unable to free himself. Without a moment of thought Dragojević changed her course, sailed up to Smoli and jumped into the water to help him out.
The CIFP was founded by UNESCO and a number of intentional sports governing bodes in Paris in 1963. The goal of the CIFP is the worldwide defence and promotion of fair play.
