A 3-2 victory over Slovakian ice hockey side Slovan last night has ensured Zagreb’s KHL Medveščak a sixth place finish in the Western Conference of the Euro-Russian Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) in their debut season…
Despite being the team with the smallest seasonal budget, Medveščak secured its playoffs spot last week and will now face Czech Republic’s Lev in home and away matches. The first matches will be played in Prague on 8 and 9 March, followed by the return legs in Zagreb on 10 and 11 March.
”I really didn’t even think about this, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t dream about it! With this budget we’ve created a sporting wonder in the league, making it to the playoffs against teams that have budgets up to ten times larger than ours. It shows that our coaches and athletic team have done an outstanding job and I’m glad that I never once doubted in their success!”, said President Damir Gojanović.
