An estimated 2 million Croats have no interest what so ever in reading a book, according to a recent survey…
In 2013 only 40% of Croatians read at least one book, which was 8% less than the previous year when 48% read at least one book, and 16% less than in 2011. Publishers in Croatia are concerned with the negative trend and it may affect the number of libraries, with some in the smaller regions of the country expected to see some closures. The capital Zagreb is home to the people who read the most in the country, with the Lika region claiming the fewest book readers.
In Germany, 73% of citizens read at least one book a month, while in Italy 71% read at least one book monthly. 68% read at least one book a month in the U.S.
