First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusić has met with members of the Croat emigrant community in Santiago de Chile, who are very much present in Chile’s politics, academic life, art and business, and new President Michelle Bachelet during a busy day in Chile on Tuesday…
“We are talking about a very vibrant community in Santiago and Punta Arenas of mostly Dalmatian descent. One of its most prominent members, Baldo Prokurica, is an incumbent Chilean senator. People here have undivided sympathy for Croatia, they are not politicising their status, they have different political positions but they are united in their positive attitude towards Croatia,” said Pusić, adding that the Croat community, which has shown interest in tourism, should be encouraged to invest in Croatia.
“We wish to continue cooperating with Croatia, as well as seek new areas for cooperation,” said Chilean President Michelle Bachelet after meeting with the Croatian FM on Tuesday. Bachelet was also interested in Croatia’s path to the EU and its experiences as a new member. Pusić emphasized Croatia’s intensive cooperation in the region, as it is in our interest that the countries in the region continue their progress towards European integration. (MVEP)
