Marija Bićanić from the eastern Croatian town of Požega is proof that it is never to late to become a beauty pageant winner…
The sprightly 84-year-old has just been named ‘Miss Village’ in Croatia, a competition which only had three conditions for entry – that the contestants were from a village weighed less than 160 kilograms, and they still had at least 3 of their own teeth.
“What can I say. I wouldn’t say I am happy, but over the moon,” the new Miss Village said after her victory.
“I am happy that the lovely soul Marija won the sash. I can’t wait for next year,” second runner-up Mara Matanić said.
Marija won over the judges with her spontaneity, her singing and her counting in Italian. Along with the title and the sash, Marija also won a bottle of wine and lunch for four, a kilo of beans, half a kilo of pancetta and a jar of pickles. (RTL Screenshot)
