Zagreb Bakery Helping the Hungry

With it being announced last week that more than 300,000 bank accounts in Croatia had been blocked because citizens were unable to pay their monthly utility bills, obtaining life’s basics has increasing become a struggle for more and more people as the recession deepens in the country…

One initiative however, from a small bakery in downtown Zagreb, needs to be applauded, as citizens are given a chance to help out their fellow-man. Customers have the opportunity to buy a loaf of bread, which is then left in a special display, with those less fortunate able to come into the bakery and take the loaf of bread for free. The initiative has been well received with the display usually fairly full in the mornings as locals do their bit to help others in the tough times.
