The Croatian U-21 side are just one win away from qualifying for the 2015 UEFA European U-21 Championships in the Czech Republic after drawing 1-1 with the Ukraine last night in Zagreb…
Brazil-bound striker Ante Rebić opened the scoring early in the second half when he clinically finished off a sweeping move down the right, but Nenad Gračan’s side could not hold on for the win, and conceded just 10 minutes later. A win in the last round of group play against Latvia will see Croatia top Group 5 and book them a place in the Czech Republic. Croatia’s side last night featured 7 players (Zelenika, Vrsaljko, Bubnjić, Brozović, Kovačić, Pašalić , Rebić) who had been with Niko Kovač’s World Cup side preparing for Brazil in Austria during the week.
“I am happy with the way we played more than the result, considering we had more chances and played well, regardless that the guys who came from the camp in Austria were a bit tired. I think the public enjoyed the match. The point today means a lot,” said Croatia’s coach. (pic: Drago Sopta)
