The Queen of Denmark will make an official visit to Croatia this October, after accepting an invitation from Croatia’s President Ivo Josipović….
Margrethe II of Denmark will be in Croatia with her husband Henrik, Prince Consort of Denmark, from 21 – 24 October this year. Relations between Denmark and Croatia have traditionally been strong, with Denmark being among the first nations to recognise Croatia as an independent country back in the 1990’s, and to ratify Croatia’s EU membership.
As the eldest child of King Frederik IX and Ingrid of Sweden, Margrethe II succeeded her father upon his death in 1972. On her accession, she became the first female monarch of Denmark since Margrethe I, ruler of the Scandinavian countries in 1375–1412 during the Kalmar Union. In 1967, she married Henri de Laborde de Monpezat, with whom she has two sons: Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim. (pic: Holger Motzkau 2010, Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons)
