Despite more than 330,000 unemployed, and an average wage of just 700 euros per month, Croats are still managing to save. Currently on bank accounts Croats have close to 168 billion kuna (22 billion euros), nearly 4 and a half billion (600 million euros) more than last year.
Research shows that currently around 70 percent of Croats are managing to save. Statistically every Croat saves around 440 kuna (60 euros) a month. That amount puts Croats seventh on the list amongst central and eastern European nations when it comes to savings.
Economist Alen Kovac from Erste bank says the statistics need to be taking with caution, as a large percentage of the population are struggling and do not have the luxury to even think about saving, reported Croatian television.
