One of Croatia’s most well-known ćevapi chains will grill its last batch of the popular meat dish later this month after satisfying customers for the last 36 years…
Daily newspaper Vecernji list reports that Rubelj grill, which had 17 outlets in Croatia, has gone bankrupt. Doors will shut on the last remaining outlets on Zagreb’s Dolac markets, and Kvatrić square later this month. Trouble began for the popular chain as the crisis hit the country, with Rubelj closing a number of outlets in the last couple of years. Only 9 remained opened, employing around 100 staff, at the start of this year.
The first Rubelj grill was opened 36 years ago in 1978 by founder Ivan Rubelj. In 1997 the business was taken over by his brother Ante, who later died in 2010.
