Vir-y Good Growth for One Croatian Island

It is a dream for all tourist destinations to be able to announce 50% growth, numbers, but for one Croatian island it is a reality this year…
The island of Vir (pronounced Ver), situated just off the Dalmatian coast of Zadar, has recorded 50% more tourist overnight stays, and 40% more arrivals this year compared to the same period last year, and is hoping that it breaks the magical million overnight stays mark by the end of the year.
According to the Vir Tourist Board, in the first 6 months of this year Vir has seen 24,500 arrivals, and 268,200 overnight stays. The biggest share, 63% of arrivals, has come from local tourists. 9,000 foreign tourists have come to the island in the first 6 months of 2014, 23% more than last year, with the island popular among the Germans, Slovenes, Hungarians and Czechs.
