Peak tourist season has hit Croatia, with between 1 million and 1.2 million tourists currently holidaying in the country, reports Croatian radiotelevision...
After a quieter than usual July, statistics from the past two weekends, which are traditionally the busiest of the year, have been better than last year. As it was last year, the winner this year again seems to be the Dalmatian city of Split, which has seen a jump of 20% in the number of arrivals and overnight stays. The northern Adriatic has not been as busy as expected, but Dalmatia is pulling up the country’s statistics.
On Friday and Saturday a total of 1.43 million tourists entered Croatia, said the Ministry of Internal Affairs, up 4% from the same period last year. More and more foreign tourists are arriving by plane, with 6% more arriving this weekend compared to last year. The roads have again been busy over the weekend with 142,117 vehicles passing through the Lučko toll booth in both directions on Friday and Saturday, adding Sunday’s numbers, which were not in yet, and last year’s record looks like it could be beaten.
