Kornati National Park Celebrates 34 Year Anniversary

In 1980, 89 of the 140-odd islands, islets and reefs of the Kornati archipelago were declared a national park due to their exceptional landscape beauty, interesting geomorphology, and rich submarine eco-system. The Kornati National Park, including the islands and their marine surroundings, have now been protected for 34 years, and Croatia’s Enviroment Minster was there on Wednesday to confirm that investment would be made into what is a special part of the country.

“The projects that we are investing in we want them to help with growth, and for Kornati to achieve their tourism potential and become the engine of development in this area. We will contribute 3.6 million kuna (500,000 euros) to the Visitor and Education Center project in Vrulje Bay. The park, as well as the locals will benefit from this- said Minister Mihael Zmajlović.

The National Park’s director, Robert Bobinac, added that their task is to make sure that Croatia’s natural riches are preserved, and at the same time make it possible for locals in the area to live and work. Works will start on the Visitor and Education Centre in October and be ready for the next summer season.
