Tourist Records Tumble in Zadar

The latest data from the Croatian Tourist Board showed that a number of destinations were down on arrival numbers from last year, particularly in the north of the country. But, one destination on Dalmatia’s coast has enjoyed a record-breaking season to date…

More tourists have visited Zadar this year, with arrivals up 24% from the same period in 2013. There is good signs that the figures will be even better come the end of the season, with August and September bookings up. This summer Zadar has so far smashed arrivals, overnight stays,flight arrivals at Zadar airport, and tourist spend records, reports HRT.

The island of Vir, in Zadar’s archipelago, has been the real hit this summer, passing one million overnight stays, up 50% from last year. In the first 6 months of this year Vir has seen 24,500 arrivals, and 268,200 overnight stays. The biggest share, 63% of arrivals, has come from local tourists. 9,000 foreign tourists have come to the island in the first 6 months of 2014, 23% more than last year, with the island popular among the Germans, Slovenes, Hungarians and Czechs.
