The current ruling Croatian government are toying with the idea of selling Croatian citizenship to investors, reports RTL television…
Along with more tax reforms, the government is seriously considering selling citizenship to investors who have serious intentions in Croatia. The concept is not a new one, in Malta citizenship and a passport will cost you 1.5 million euros. For less the Hungarian government will give you official residency status, whilst in Canada and Hong Kong the practice of selling citizenship has been going on for a while. The current Croatian government have struggled to attract serious investors since coming to power in 2011, and the new measure might be met with firm resistance both at home in Croatia and in Brussels as a Croatian passport now means a EU passport. The government would not confirm RTL’s story.
