If fans of Game of Thrones did not know that scenes for the hit HBO series were shot in Croatia, then they have been hiding underneath a rock…
Game of Thrones actress Nathalie Emmanuel, who is currently in Croatia filming the 5th season of the series, is the latest to promote the country, posting a photo on Instagram of the Split suburb of Get0 out to her 80,000-plus fans, with many asking were the picture was taken. The cast and crew have had a chance to look around in their spare time whilst filming on location in Croatia, and many have taken the liberty to post their impressions on social media which is priceless ‘free’ promotion for Croatia.
It is not just the free promotion Croatia is getting either from having the cast and crew in town, Split Mayor Ivo Baldasar last night said that Split Town and council companies benefited to the tune of more than 350,000 kuna (45,000 euros) from renting out space for the filming.
“Revenue from the rental of city land where the series is filmed is 54,000 kuna (7,000 euros), and from the city’s companies 297,320 kuna (38,000 euros), a total of 351,320 kuna (46,000 euros),” a statement from the Office of the Mayor of Split confirmed.
Filming started in Split on 28 August and will end on 17 September there before moving to Šibenik till 25 September, and finally onto Dubrovnik till 6 October.
