Head of ruling European football body UEFA, Michel Platini, says that Croatia is already on a yellow card with regards to its hooligans and any sign of trouble when they meet Serbia in the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches will result in a red card and a ban from going to the World Cup in Brazil if they qualify.
UEFA and FIFA are not mucking around anymore and Platini’s directive that the Balkan nations be put under “monitoring” was just strengthened after Croatian fans clashed in Paris ahead of Dinamo Zagreb and Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League match on Tuesday.
Michel Platini will be at Zagreb’s Maksimir Stadium on 22 March when Croatia plays Serbia and also in Belgrade for the return leg on 6 September as a controller. He will personally be on hand to assess how the Croatian and Serbian authorities have stamped out hooligans, flares and racist and nationalistic chanting. If there is one flare, or any trouble including nationalistic chanting, then Croatia and Serbia face being banned from going to Brazil for the World Cup, writes Jutarnji list.
