Croatia’s Minister of Education Zeljko Jovanovic has thrown his weight behind supporting schools on Croatian islands, regardless how big or small they may be.
“Wherever there is a local organisation that wants it, schools on the islands, regardless of their costs, will not close because education should be accessible to everyone,” he said on Wednesday from the northern Adriatic island of Rab where he was attending the rally Equal opportunities for kids on islands.
Jovanovic also said that education was the key to achieving equal opportunities for all children, adding that the numbers of primary schools is on the decline all over Croatia. There are currently 7,133 primary school kids on Croatian islands, which makes up 2.1 percent of the overall number of primary school children in the whole country.
